Students are assessed by staff members during all tap, jazz and ballet classes. If a student is found to show potential at the competitive level, a meeting is generally held with parents to discuss the opportunities available and whether or not they might be interested in pursuing a more committed level of training. At times, parents may approach us regarding their interest and their childs desire to compete. Appointments can be made to discuss the progress of the student and consideration given or suggestions made to enhance their program in order to bring them up to a level where they may be able to work toward becoming competitive.
Students may be selected for one or all of the dance disciplines (tap, jazz and ballet) competitively. At the Novice (age 5-7) level, students may not have yet picked up ballet but if considered may compete for one year without ballet training. In order to continue training competitively after their first season, students must then add ballet to their cirriculm of regular classes.
All competitive students are also obligated to complete the season and participate in the year end recital.
Early each season a competitive information booklet is handed out to the parents of those students who are considered for competition. This will further inform you of the commitment involved including costs regarding choreography, entry fees, costumes and competitive accounts; dates and locations of both mandatory and optional competitions the studio will enter; workshop classes, guest teachers and spring showcase performances.
We pride ourselves on being upfront with parents and organized so that there are NO surprises! With the outline of costs upfront you are able to better decide what is affordable for you as a family and to what extent you wish to become involved.
Although most will continue to compete from one year to the next, it remains at the teachers and managements discretion if it is felt that either the students OR parents level of commitment falls beneath that of which is expected. It is further enforced that if a positive team spirit cannot be met by all students and parents, those involved will be met with by management regarding their future at the studio.
As of September 2006 a penalty will be applied to accounts not paid by their due date unless arrangements for payment have been made with management.
Our goal is to PROMOTE self esteem by means of positive and constructive criticism. We work to balance the positive with the negative in order to encourage and bring out their natural ability. Competitive training will include a stronger sense of discipline expected from the students and respect for teachers and their training.
If you have any questions regarding the competitive program please inquire at the desk for a personal appointment.
